Steve Waugh evolved from a series of setbacks early in his international career to become arguably the toughest, most mentally strong player of his generation. He retired in 2004 with the best winning percentage of any Test captain and more Test and one-day appearances than any other Australian cricketer. The Australian team he led won the 1999 World Cup and was named 'Team of the Year' at the
Laureus World Sports Awards. He was named Australian of the Year in 2004 and Australian Father of the Year in 2005. Since his retirement he has built an enviable reputation as a writer and observer on the game he loves, and worked in mentoring and athlete liaison roles. 238 x 160mm., pp. 14 (preliminaries), 340, colour plates, credits, photographs.
