The earliest work in this book was painted in 1900 when Orban was sixteen years old. The forty-nine other colour plates represent a cross-section of paintings done over the subsequent eighty-three years for, at almost a hundred years of age, Desiderius was still painting and teaching. Even the blindness which afflicted Orban in 1979 did not stop him painting or teaching. Nineteen of the paintings here testify to his success. This book charts the evolution of a great artist who was also a indomitable human being.
