At least 60 Ukrainians, emigres from the Russian Empire, enlisted in the First Australian Imperial Force, 48 served overseas, 11 paid the ultimate sacrifice, 34 returned to Australia. Queensland accounted for the largest number of Ukrainian Anzacs: 37 had either arrived and/or enlisted in Queensland. Ukrainian Anzacs left faint brushstrokes on the Anzac narrative. But they were part of the many faces that
gave birth to the Anzac Legend. Their footsteps have faded into the fog of forgetfulness. Their unmarked graves lie mostly forgotten. 'Faded Footsteps' gives a voice to the silent stories of Ukrainian Anzacs. - They came to the land of wattle - From the steppes of shimmering wheat - And fought side by side with Australia's sons - Both in victory and defeat - . 255 x 178mm., pp. vii, 66, black & white and colour plates throughout, notes & bibliography, List of Ukrainian Anzacs.
